The month of March brings not only the Ides of March, but the very first day of Spring arrives March 20th. Hurry up Springtime!!!! All this winter weather is getting very old right about now. This native Californian is just not used to all the cold stuff that we have been having. Brrrrr. Of course, along with the first day of spring we will celebrate Saint Paddy’s Day on March 17th….Claudia and Rex Egan’s favorite holiday of the year. And…other days of notice for this month…Daylight Savings time begins March 14, Palm Sunday March 28th and the first day of Passover is on March 30th. The only date you really have to remember though is Saturday, March 27th. That date is the Altus Twirlers square dance which will be held at the Altus Community Center across from Petticoat Junction on the East end. Cecil Burton from Ponca City will be doing the honors and he and Barbara always make the evening so very enjoyable. The dance starts at 8:00, the table will be set and the food all ready to go, so come on down and have a fun evening with all your fellow square dance enthusiasts.

Thanks to all the wonderful people who ventured our way for the January dance with Scott Bennett. You all found us (some a little easier than others) and we are sure glad you did. We had 4 squares plus a little extra. There was a square of student dancers representing Western Swing, Hydro Hi Steppers, and the Altus Twirlers. Scott was able to call several tips that everyone, including the students, were able to dance and enjoy the evening. Gelene Shreck and Bill Western brought a square in their vehicle from Elk City. Thanks again to all. We love having company. Every club in the district was represented plus three dancers from Star Promenaders in Lawton who came over to give Scott and Laura their support.

Our new dancers class is going very well. We missed a couple of classes due to the ice storm and the next week the Community Center was still being used as a shelter for the Altus community. However, last week everyone was anxious to get back to lessons and even though it was bitterly cold, all our new dancers were there. I guess they missed us. We are looking forward to graduation in May so mark your calendars now for May 22nd.

I guess that is all I have to report for this month. Our prayers and well wishes go out to Kelvin Casebeer, Beverly Petross, Mike Perkins and Pat Meason plus any others that I don’t know about. We are keeping you all in our prayers!!!

See you all in a square real, real soon.

Ron and Barb Smith, reporters
