Altus
The Altus Twirlers would like to thank all the square dancers who
attended the memorial dance for Pat Sherrill in July. Nicky Boone called
the dance and how perfect was that. We were honored to have Gerald, his
son Gerald Jr. and wife Linda, daughter Teresa and son-in-law Alger
Fowler, Grandchildren Beverly & Thyssen Stuart and great grandchildren
Linda, Tanner and Hunter in attendance. The family was so very gracious
and Gerald danced several tips with his many friends. We were able to
donate $202.00 to the Vinson Community Center Building Fund which Pat had
put in many hours working for. Gerald wanted everyone to know that he was
going to be ok and to thank everyone for their wonderful outpouring of
love and generosity during this very trying time for the Sherrill family.
We will all miss Pat so very much. She was a wonderful beacon of light for
us all.
We will NOT be dancing in September as we are going dark in order that
all the district officers could attend the State Round-up in Lawton that
weekend. Our next dance will be in October, fourth Saturday as usual, with
Jimmy Gouge calling. We hope to see everyone in costume to enjoy a fun,
fun evening.
We are also proud to announce that the Altus Twirlers will again be
sponsoring FREE SQUARE DANCE LESSONS starting on Thursday, Sept. 11th at
7:00 PM. We will be using the ABC dvd's to begin the class and get
everyone enjoying the dance just for fun. This usually lasts about 6 weeks
or so. We will begin to teach more calls sometime late October. We have
also decided to do a short plus workshop from 6:30 to 7:00 each Thursday
evening so that the new dancers can learn/brush up on the plus calls. So,
if you know of anyone down in our area who might be interested, please
have them contact one of the Altus club members.
That just about wraps things up for this issue. Looking ahead to the
fall and cooler weather, although the rain we have been having the last
few days has been wonderful. See you all in a square real, real soon.
