Morton’s Memories
End of year meetings coming up, delegate voting needed, and new officer elections being held.

Well guys, another very successful South-west District Festival is in the books. If you didn’t make it to Sayre for this one, you really missed out. We had Jerry Junck calling and he really called a great dance. I heard more dancers complaining of tired feet than I have in a long time. We had all but three of the District Officers present and this was also a State Officer visitation and several of them were there. From all of us that were there, you missed a great one, but we sure had fun without you anyway. The only thing that would have made it better would have been having you there.

We had festival ticket turn in and the Southwest District sold a total of 7916. Good work guys. Our clubs can sure use the money. Total for the state this year is 69,891 and the Victory Dance goes to the Central District with a total of 18, 419 tickets sold. They beat us a little bit, but they have a more populated market to sell in. An attaboy goes out to the Central District. We will pass the word on the Victory Dance location as soon as we know where it is. (2 pm, Westside Lions Hall, 4135 NW 10th, OKC.)

The Southwest District Nominating Committee met at the festival and they came up with the following list of candidates for the 2018 SWD Elected Board: President – Gerald and Ann Sherrill; 1st Vice President – Belinda Alberry; 2nd Vice President – Ken & Neola Stephens; Treasurer – Vernon & Lois Schimmels; Secretary – Sandy & Monte Schimmer. Our By-Laws require that each position be filled by a couple (“man and a woman”). If we don’t find a suitable man willing to serve with Belinda as the 1st Vice, I will be presenting a motion at the November meeting that this requirement of the By-laws be set aside for 2018.

The State Festival is taking place November 4th at the Tower Hotel 3233 NW Expressway in Oklahoma City, and there will be an OSDF Business meeting on Sun-day November 5th. This is a wonderful dance called by the Oklahoma callers. Look forward to seeing you all there
SWD Annual November business meet-ing will take place November 12, 2017, 2:00 pm, at the Western Swing Hut in Elk City. We need all of our voting members present, so put it on your calendar.

See ya in a square        Gene & Barbara Morton
